Volunteer Accident Insurance

Why should I purchase this Volunteer Accident Insurance Plan?

The question you should really be asking is:  What happens if one of my volunteers falls from a ladder while changing a light bulb and breaks his or her arm, and does not have sufficient medical coverage to pay the medical bills that result from the fall?  That’s when this insurance plan steps in.  As long as the accidental injury occurs while the volunteer is performing a function that the organization requested of him or her, then the volunteer will have excess accident medical coverage to fill in where his or her other health insurance leaves off.  This plan pays 100% of the usual and customary charges for medical expenses incurred as a result of accidents that occur while the volunteer is performing policyholder supervised and sponsored activities, which remain unpaid by the volunteer’s other medical insurance.

What happens if my volunteer doesn’t have any other health insurance?

Even though this Plan is “excess”, if one of your volunteers suffers an accidental injury while performing a volunteer function, and if he or she doesn’t have any other insurance, then this Plan will provide primary benefits, up to 100% of the usual and customary expenses for the medical services provided.

What do I do if there’s an accident impacting one of my volunteers?

Since the Volunteer Accident Insurance Plan provides “excess” coverage, your volunteer must first file for benefits with his or her health insurance provider.  If there are any expenses left over, then a claim form along with copies of the other health insurance provider’s Explanation of Benefits form should be sent to the Plan’s Claims Administrator for processing.
